Political sociology in Iran/Alireza Azghandi

In this paper, the author takes advantage of positivist school of thought, which came into being in the middle of the 18th century, to study the evolution of politics and political sociology. By raising the question as to whether  changes in paradigms in sociology have been accompanied with parallel changes in the assessment of social phenomena in Iran,  the author studies factors  that  affect general sociology and political sociology as well as related  subjects and ramifications and delves into theoretical basis of contemporary sociology and its practical paradigm in Iran.  By stressing that sociology is a modern  issue resulting  from  modernity as well as economic  and  political  developments  in  the  society,  the  author divides sociology in Iran over the past 100 years into three periods. The first period is introduced by such prominent personalities as Mirza Aqakhan Kermani and extends from the Constitutional Revolution  up  to  the  establishment of Tehran University.  The second period  is characterized by the evolution of social research and training, as a result of positivistic school of thought introduced by such thinkers as Auguste Comte. That period coincides with the rule of Pahlavis.  The third  period  encompasses the past 27 years. Since the author believes that sociology is away from prejudgments and tunnel visions, he studies those periods in three stages and elaborates on factors which have played a role in every stage.
